Dressings for Patients

Posted on:

The NHS does not fund GPs to supply dressings which are used for patients when they attend the surgery. Until recently we have supplied some dressings out of our own funds. However, this is no longer sustainable and with immediate effect we are issuing prescriptions for dressings used in the practice.

Most patients will not notice any change as we can process the prescriptions on behalf of the patient and obtain dressings from a pharmacy. Patients who normally pay for prescriptions will, however, be asked to take a prescription to a pharmacy to obtain dressings to being to their appointment with the practice nurse. We will try to prescribe appropriate amounts so that this does not become too much of a problem for the patient.

Please ask a member of the nursing team, a GP or Claire our Practice Manager, if you have any questions about this.
