Weight Loss Injections

You may have seen the recent media coverage regarding weight-loss injections such as Mounjaro, Ozempic and Wegovy. At present, these medications remain classified as “red-list” drugs in Calderdale and cannot be initiated in GP practices here. We’re awaiting further guidance from the Calderdale Integrated Care Board (ICB) and our Local Medical Committee on when they can be prescribed in primary care.

When available, the first cohort will follow strict national criteria:

• BMI of 40 kg/m² or above

• At least four weight-related health conditions (for example: dyslipidaemia, hypertension, obstructive sleep apnoea, cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes)

• Simultaneous enrolment in an approved NHS weight-management programme

In the meantime, please don’t book an appointment specifically for these injections, as we’re not yet able to prescribe them. If you’d like support with weight management right now, speak to your practice nurse about the NHS-funded services already available. We’ll update this page and let you know as soon as local guidance is in place.
