Letter from the Chief Inspector of General Practice
We carried out an announced new style focused inspection at Brig Royd Surgery on 26 September 2019 as part of our inspection programme, following our annual regulatory process.
We only inspected the domains of effective and well-led during this inspection. The ratings previously awarded for safe, caring and responsive remain in place following our previous comprehensive inspection in October 2015.
Our judgement of the quality of care at this service is based on a combination of what we found when we inspected, information from our ongoing monitoring of data about services and information from the provider, patients, the public and other organisations.
We have rated this practice as good overall.
We concluded that:
• A range of quality improvement activity was carried out to monitor and improve outcomes for patients.
• Continuity of care was available through access to GP of choice in many cases.
• A range of practice specific policies were in place, which were updated in line with relevant guidance or internal events.
• The practice had efficient and thorough systems in place to ensure recalls for patients with chronic conditions were effective. All patients failing to attend appointments were followed up routinely to ensure their wellbeing.
• There were clearly defined leadership roles within the practice team, which ensured that up to date guidance was communicated and adhered to across the practice team.
• Staff told us they felt supported by the GPs and management team at the practice. Staff and patients demonstrated their understanding of the vision and values of the practice.
